"color series" and it initially had 550 and 560 variants. but wasn't the workcenter an office machine? erm... yes! so are there 2 different versions? erm... yes! ok; this could go on for a while; what xerox did was create a machine called the colour series 550/560 but essentially make it modular. unlike it's predecessor, the workcenter 7655, the colour series had the same internal software whether you wanted to use it as an office copier or a production printer. now then, remember our history lesson and why the workcenter was much cheaper than the docucolor; well you have a similar story with the color series 550/560 and the erm... color series 550/560 machines. some of them (the ones intended for use in offices) were configured without a digital front end (or postscript rip if you like) and therefore had no colour management capabilities and while the internal software was much better than the workcentre (because basically it was upgraded docucolor software) it was still about as useful as a chocolate teapot for digital print. recently a few of these machines have been purchased by people hoping that they can just plug a digital front end in and it will be bargain of the century however this is not the case for 2 pretty big reasons: 1 digital front ends for color series 550 and 560 machines are about as rare as hens teeth and due to being in such high demand the command a price that is often higher than the printer that you intend to attach them to. and; 2 even if you did manage to get hold of one you still couldn't attach it without installing an interface card (an additional circuit board that has the socket to connect the dfe to); oh, and then you have to remove the postscript emulator and configure it all.... and the interface cards are as rare as the digital front ends that they support. so what about the current models; surely xerox have abandoned this crazy model naming system in favour of something that would be easier for customers to understand? erm... nope; the c60 and c70 are both configurable machines and the digital front ends are optional extras. the versant (which is the defacto production class machine) does always come with a digital front end. so there you have it, you can buy a colour series 550 or 560 extremely cheap, but if you are intending to use it as a digital press then you probably shouldn't. if you would like to talk to us about any aspect of the colour series, the c series, the versant, or even the docucolor give us a call on 01253 790098; we're here to help and we pride ourselves on ensuring that you get the machine that it best suited to the task at hand! is the 550 better than the 252 in any way and is it worth upgrading? the short answer is yes; the alignment is better, you can now print sra3 from an internal tray (albeit limited stock weights) and the biggest bonus is the longevity of the consumables (particularly the drums) which will provide a significant monetary saving over the docucolor. there is little to no difference in the image quality of either machine (if they are well maintained), but the 550 will remain consistently good for longer. while the 550 does not offer siqa its internal software will be allow you to perform some manual alignment. the toner cartridges last longer and as 252 consumables are getting more scarce they are also starting to become quite expensive in comparison to their 550 counterparts. in all the time that we have been selling 550's we have never had a customer with buyers remorse. feature: fault code 42-326 42-326 is probably the fault that we come across most, a quick google will soon have you determining that the problem is a small silver strip on the back of the transfer belt that is "dirty". in nearly all cases this is true, but what google and countless youtube videos don't tell you is that is the symptom rather than the cause. assuming that you have managed to get your belt off without putting a kink in it (if you haven't then it is new belt time) and the back of the belt does indeed look dirty, giving it a quick wipe will more than likely quickly get you up and running again, but it may not be too long before the pesky error returns. the causes fo
